The family of Mauritia E. Theus announces her passing on June 20, 2025, at Silver Cross Pavilion of Friendship Manor, Rock Island. She was 102.
Mauritia Elizabeth was born in Rock Island on December 18, 1922, to Herman and Elizabeth Boden Bredar. She graduated from St. Joseph High School. Enduring the Great Depression and WWII she would marry her beloved Harry L. Theus in 1944 on their way to becoming the best a family will ever know.
In addition to her working career, she was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan. Her faith never wavered. She was also active in community organizations, including Telephone Pioneers, MWA retirement group and the Birthday Girls Club. Her passions included, crocheting, knitting, gardening, the very best of baking, and providing in all ways. Her greatest delights were her loving family and friends.
The thankful children of Mauritia and Harry are, Gregg (Dorothea) Theus, Dan (Sally) Theus, Karen (Jerry) Murphy, Kirk (Cheryl) Theus and Harry (Joe) Theus. There are six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren as well as her brother, Herman Bredar and multiple nieces and nephews. Mauritia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and siblings, Bernard, Vincent, Robert, Mary, Charlotte and Antoinette.
Funeral services for Mauritia will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11:30 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Prior to the Mass, there will be a visitation from 10-11 am at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue in Milan. Mauritia will be laid to rest at Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island with her husband, Harry, a WWII veteran.
We kindly request that memorials be directed to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or Heartland Hospice. Our Friendship Manor staff have been exemplary. Our gratitude is immeasurable.
