Obituary

Max Coleman Buckley, 86, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the home he shared with his daughter and her family in East Moline, Il.

Max's wishes were to be cremated. There will be no formal visitation or funeral at this time. The family is planning a special get together for family and friends in August of 2025. Details will be shared at a later date. However, condolences can be sent to Max's home at 601 26th Ave, East Moline, Il 61244. Max was born 1-17-1938 in Iowa City, IA to Robert Buckley and A. Irene Coleman. One of eight children, Max graduated from Ogden High school in 1956 and shortly thereafter married Lana Clarice Buckley on 6-22-1958. They lived in Perry, Ogden, and Des Moines before moving to Dayton in 1966, where they found home. He was the father of Bradley (Karen) Buckley, Brenda (Willy) Nitsch, Robert Buckley and Christine Buckley (Christopher). Max and Lana ran Buckley & Busch MFG in Dayton Iowa for many years. He was very active in the community and supported both the arts and sports departments. Max enjoyed golfing at the local course and fishing on the Des Moines River and later with his brother and nephew Steve in Texas. Max rarely said no to anything, from riding an elephant down main street, acting in a local theatre production, helping out with the Dayton Rodeo, to flying in a hot air ballon. The Buckley house had an open-door policy. Throughout the years, many people lived and stayed with the family whether for a few hours, days, or months. Max loved music and dancing, spending time going to concerts and dancing to live music with his partner in crime Glenda for as long as he possibly could. He was one tough nugget and never complained, right up to the end. He always said getting old wasn't for the weak. He passed away at home with his head cradled in his daughter's arms while her partner Christopher let him know that he would be there to take care of her and Charlie so he could go rest.

He is survived by his best friend Glenda Eccles. His children Brad, Brenda, and Chrissy. His grandchildren, Doug and Dixie Summers, Patrick and Andrea Nitsch, Cheyenne and Tanner Sampson, Alex Jensen, Dakota and Dylan Cline, Sabastian and Harley Buckley, Robby Buckley and Charlie Starbuck, grandson-in-law Christopher Schwartz, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His extended family Lutricia Wirth, Kevin and Janis Diehl, and Samantha (Haub) Scott.

Max was preceded in death by his wife, Lana, parents Bob and Irene Buckley and siblings. His son, Robert, grandson Logun and daughters-in-law Lisa Buckley and Lori Buckley.

Condolences may be shared with the family on the Tribute Wall.
