Maxine Elizabeth Peterson, 91, of Milan, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026, at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

Maxine was born on July 10, 1935, in Rock Island, Illinois, a daughter of John D. and Wilhelmine P. (Philebar) Stoever. She graduated from Rock Island High School with the Class of 1953. On December 11, 1954, she married the love of her life, Norman H. Peterson, in Iowa. Together, they shared more than 71 years of marriage and created a lifetime of cherished memories.

Maxine was a devoted homemaker and a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Rock Island, where she was active with the Altar Guild and WELCA Church Circle. She found great joy in cooking for family gatherings and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever she was needed. Above all, Maxine cherished her family and treasured every moment spent with those she loved.

Those left to cherish Maxine’s memory include her children, Steven (Theresa) Peterson, Rhonda (Mike) McCalester, and Angela (David) McCollum; her grandchildren, Steven (Avory) Peterson, Jennifer (Aaron) Conner, Bonnie (Jeremy) Turner, Kristy (Brad) McCreary, and Carlee McCollum; 8 great-grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law, Carolyn Peterson and Sherry (Gerald) Proehl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; her 4 brothers, 2 sisters; and her great-grandson, Dylan McCalester.
