Obituary

Melvin R. Bremenkamp, 78, of Rock Island, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. Memorial services for Mr. Bremenkamp will be 11am, Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation or to Alternatives for Older Adults.

Mel was born on August 28, 1937 in Colby, Kansas, the son of George Bremenkamp and Anna Spielman Bremenkamp. He married Joanna Pierce on October 25, 1980 in Bettendorf. Mel was a systems analyst at the Rock Island Arsenal for many years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline. Mel was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Mr. Bremenkamp was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna; sons, Gregory Bremenkamp, Davenport, Matthew (Gena Daniels) Bremenkamp, Davenport; step daughter, Lisa Regan, Maquoketa; step son, Keith Pierce, Bettendorf; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Glenn Bremenkamp, Biloxi, MS., Dale Bremenkamp, Betty Bremenkamp, Kansas; brother in law and sister in law, Steve and Carol Wilson, Milan.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Keri Bremenkamp; sisters, Carol Garrett, Rosemary Shebel; and a infant brother.

Mr. Bremenkamp's family would like to thank the staff of Rosewood Care Center for the love and care they showed Mel.
