IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael J.
Adams
September 2, 1955 – October 27, 2023
The family of Michael John Adams, 68, are saddened to announce the passing of our dear loved one on, October 27, 2023 at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike fought hard until the end.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 2-6 pm at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. The burial will be private. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Reynolds Fire Department or the Andalusia Ambulance Service.
Mike was born in Corona, CA on September 2, 1955, a son of John Adams and Joan Cate Adams. Mike grew up and attended schools in East Moline/Silvis, IL and in Jacksonville, FL. He attended Blackhawk College and Scott Community specializing in drafting, blueprint reading and welding.
Mike and Anita Preston were married on February 25, 1984 in Rock Island. They are members of St. Patrick Church, Taylor Ridge, IL.
Mike was a talented man who was a house painter, foreman carpenter, iron worker, salesman but his main occupation was a welder and fabricator. He spent the last 12 years as owner and operator of Adams Welding Company. Mike also had an artistic talent and fabricated and welded many sculptures which he mainly gave to family and friends. He painted pictures too that are treasured by the family. Mike and his son liked to restore classic Mopar cars in earlier years. Mike enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren with the 4-H projects and fair shows as well as sporting events and pool parties.
About 4 years ago, Mike designed a Catholic cross. He hired a local company to have the crosses laser cut and he assembled rings on them all to put on keychains. Mike handed them out to family, friends, and strangers with words that: "Jesus is the key to heaven". He has assembled and handed out 2400 crosses. He was a generous man and this brought him great joy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anita Adams; children, Brandy (Wyatt) Junis, Brock (Emily) Adams; five very loved grandchildren; parents: John (Ginny) Adams and Joan Hobbs; siblings, Margaret Cobb, Richard Daniel (Carol) Adams and Jeff Adams; and a large extended family, father and mother- in-law Henry (Diana) Preston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Julie (Monty) Kadel, Brian (Kelly) Preston and Becky Carroll; and a large host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members.
Mike and Anita are also blessed with great family and friends who have helped during this difficult time.
He was preceded in death by his step-parents, Joseph Hobbs and Veryl Adams and grandparents, John and Mary Adams and Ned and Margaret Cate.
