Michael A. Carpenter, 69, of Illinois City, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Hamlet Cemetery.  Friends and family are asked to meet at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Reynolds by 9:30 am to go in procession, to Hamlet Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, January 2, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Reynolds.  Memorials may be made to the Illinois City Fire Department or to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Michael was born on January 8, 1953 in Rock Island, the son of George and Irene (Lawrence) Carpenter.  He married Janice Johnson on October 10, 1981 in Illinois City.  He worked for Bridgestone Bandag, Muscatine, in the IT department.  Michael also was a truck driver.  He enjoyed restoring antique and small lawn tractors.  Michael was known for restoring an old barn, bringing it back to life, and using it for his daughter's wedding.  Michael loved everything about computers and knew how to troubleshoot most issues.  He always kept busy working on projects around the house and keeping everything picked up.

Michael is survived by his wife, Janice Carpenter; son, Dewey (Melissa) Carpenter; daughter, Mindy (Christian) Mark; father, George Carpenter; grandchildren, Alexa, Caleb, and Elijah Carpenter, JT and Henley Mark, and Caiden and Colin Tyler; sisters, Terri (Randy) Staley and Lori (Tim) Bausch; mother-in-law, Joanne Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Carpenter; grandparents, Chester and Lola Lawrence and Don and Lillie Carpenter; and father-in-law, LaVille "Polly" Johnson.
