IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael J.
Kinnamon
July 20, 1942 – June 13, 2023
Michael J. Kinnamon, aged 80, of Milan, Illinois, peacefully passed away on June 13th at
Clarissa Cook Hospice Home.
Services are 1:00pm Tuesday June 20, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be from 12:00pm to service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rock Island National Cemetery, with Military Honors. Memorials may be left to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Mike was born on July 20, 1942 to Priscilla J. Perkins and subsequently adopted by Leonard Kinnamon. He was a graduate of Rock Island High School in 1960 and later joined the United States Navy. On June 8, 1963, he married Linda L. Hilderbrand, with whom he celebrated their remarkable 60-year anniversary just before his passing.
Mike, a proud Navy Veteran, was never seen without donning a retired Navy shirt or hat. He served as a Sailor from 1960 to 1977, with assignments in Illinois, Hawaii, Virginia, and South Carolina aboard the USS Benjamin Franklin (SSBN 640), USS Lafayette (SSBN 616), and USS James Madison (SSBN 621). He retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Following his retirement from the Navy, Mike relocated his family to their hometown and began working at the Rock Island Arsenal. After a second retirement, he found joy in his employment at Von Maur, where he diligently served in stock and housekeeping duties, taking particular pride in fixing all the squeaky strollers that passed through the store. He also loved volunteering at the John Deere Classic every summer in Silvis, Illinois.
Above all, Mike held a deep affection for his beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to him. Never will the memories or lessons learned from Grandpa Mike be forgotten, for the time he spent with his grandchildren was cherished in every moment.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Linda, daughter Michelle Hudson, son-in-law William Hudson, and adored grandchildren Riley, Greta, Heidi, and Adler, who all brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sisters Maureen Herbert and Patty Schwegler.
Preceding him in death were his son Brian Lee Kinnamon, his mother and father, as well as his brothers Dennis Kinnamon and Steven Kinnamon.
