Mildred M. Atkins, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mildred was born on September 14, 1934, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Larry and Lena (Easley) Nelams. She graduated high school and married Ivary Atkins in 1953. He preceded her in death in 1993. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Mildred was also an avid NBA fan and cheered on the Bulls and Lakers.

Those left to cherish Mildred's memory include her children, Roderick Atkins, Wayne (Eva) Atkins, and Mika (Stephen) Atkins-Jacobs; grandchildren, Roderick Atkins II, Angela Wilson, Crystal Jones, Michael Jones, Katrina Jones, Christopher Atkins, and Corey Jacobs; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dellena (George) Ballard; brother-in-law, Frank (Eddie Mae) Atkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Barbara Bea and Helen Sims; grandchildren, William Jones and Charlat' Jones; and great-grandson, Carter Atkins.
