Milton T. Hedquist, 97, of Rock Island, died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral services are 11 am Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 10 am until service time Thursday at the church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, or to Friendship Manor.
Milton Hedquist was born June 15, 1917 in Rock Island, a son of Arvid T. and Ellen S. Anderson Hedquist. He married Grace Lingle on July 6, 1944 in Rock Island. She died Nov. 1, 2007.
Milton graduated from Augustana College. He worked as a design/engineer at John Deere Harvester for 37 years and received several patents for his work. Milt was honored by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers for 70 years of membership.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, where he had served in many capacities and on most church committees including the church council. He served on the Rock Island City Council for one term, the Rock Island City Planning Commission for a number of years and been active with the Illowa Council of Boy Scouts. Milt was also a member of AARP and the Rock Island Kiwanis Club which honored him in 2000 with the George F. Hixson Award from Kiwanis International. He enjoyed woodworking and photography.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Cliff Bridwell, Yorba Linda, Calif.; a grandson, Erik Bridwell, granddaughter, Heather Capasso and her husband, Ben, and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Capasso, all of California; and several nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; and brother, Elton Hedquist.
