Minnie “Chris” “Mrs. B” Borkhardt, 92, Milan, IL passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at UnityPoint-Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. There will be a visitation from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM with a memorial service following at 12:30 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Inurnment at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Chris was born January 11, 1934, in Randolph, KY the daughter of Melvin and Dovie (McCoy) Borkhardt. She spent her childhood in Kentucky before moving to Decatur, IL where she met her husband, Louis Borkhardt. They were married on August 9, 1958, in Mesa. After living there briefly, they settled in the Quad Cities, where they raised their family. Chris was a devoted homemaker and mother who cared deeply for her nine children.
Chris enjoyed staying active and keeping her mind busy. She was an avid reader and participated in several book clubs. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, board games, and adult coloring books. Above all, she loved supporting her children and grandchildren at their many activities, where she became affectionately known as “Mrs. B.”
She is survived by her children, Jerry Borkhardt, Stanley Borkhardt, Lorna Borkhardt, and Kay Mendhall; grandchildren, Jordan Borkhardt, Lauren Borkhardt, Kelli Borkhardt, Cori Gunther, Daniel and Tyler Biscontine, Shawn, Brad, and Emily Borkhardt; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marvin Strode, Melvin Strode, Marie Harper; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; her sons, Freddie, Lou, Terry, and Gary Borkhardt; daughter, Diane Simms; brothers, Jim, Charles, and Ray Strode; sisters, Maggie Strode and Louise Connelly; and an infant great-granddaughter, Lily Borkhardt.
