Obituary

Mitchell Lee Maynard 68, Milan, IL passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Unity Point-Trinity Hospital, Rock Island, IL. The family will be having a memorial service for him at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses’, 2767 9th St., Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to his wife.

Mitch was born on April 7, 1958 to Robert and Charlotte (Hartman) Maynard in Moline, IL. He grew up in Andalusia, and attended Andalusia Elementary School, where he played on the Little League Baseball team.

During his teen years the family moved to Edgington where he attended Rockridge Junior and Senior High School. Mitch loved sports, he played on the Golf, Basketball and Football teams.

Mitch married Carrie Thrap in 1977. Although this union was not permanent, they had one child together Jared. While both went on to remarry, they remained friends.
Later, Mitch married the love of his life, Phyllis. Together they were active in the Rock Island congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where they enjoyed the volunteer door-to-door ministry together.
Mitch was a hard worker and started out his career in sales, by selling Kirby vacuum cleaners. In 1980, he landed a job at Inlander-Steindle Paper Company (ISP). He lied saying he knew how to drive a delivery truck, but he backed into the boss’s car and still got hired working in the warehouse. While working in the warehouse, Bob Scott the Head Buyer for Export Packaging, recognized Mitch from the Little league baseball team, because of this relationship Mitch was given the opportunity to be their sales rep. This move helped Mitch’s career in sales to explode, all the way to becoming the sales manager.
In 2001, Mitch and his business partners decided to open their own company, “Bandall”. Bandall was later purchased by Flex Pac where Mitch retired in 2022. He was a mentor to many other sales reps and people in the industry.
Outside of work Mitch enjoyed spending time with his family traveling on vacations. He especially enjoyed Florida. He also enjoyed exploring the world with his loving wife, Phyllis.
He enjoyed watching all sports, especially golf. His favorites were Coca-Cola from a glass bottle, served over ice in his Yeti cup, cherry popsicles, and Whitey's ice cream.
Mitch was a true friend to many, the type of person who would give the shirt off his back often resulting in a closet of empty hangers.
Mitch will be remembered by all that had the privilege to know him as a witty comedian that loved to make people smile and laugh.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Phyllis; children, Jared (Anna) Maynard, Tramere (Melissa) Angel, and Tonisha Angel; his grandchildren, Lyra and Scarlett, Travontai, Travarai, Marconna, Marcellus, R’Manee, C’zarreya,19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Arlene and Rita Maynard; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Marty Flaherty, and Jordan Stone.
Mitch was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Raymond (Arlene)
Maynard, Marilyn Sieben, and Scott (Rita) Maynard.

Revelation 21:4

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
