Myra was born on June 21, 1942, in Corbin, Kentucky, to Benjamin and Mae (Thompson) Taylor. After graduating from Corbin High School, she entered the workforce and lived in Colorado and Florida for short periods with her parents, before eventually settling in Cincinnati. She obtained a 2-year accounting degree and worked for many years as a tax accountant with H&R Block and other tax services.
In November 1968, Myra was united in marriage to Arnold L. Hess, in Cincinnati.
In 2000, Myra moved to the Quad Cities, Illinois, to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter. She worked as a home health aide for local agencies until her retirement.
Myra was a gifted and creative seamstress, known for making everything from curtains to bridesmaids' dresses and for doing alterations for friends and family. When her children were young, she made clothing for them and clothes for her daughters' dolls, later continuing that tradition with her granddaughter. She was a devoted member of Gospel Assembly Church and enjoyed crossword puzzles, as well as cooking and baking for those she loved.
Myra is survived by her children, Rhonda (Mike) Elsbury and Arnold "Kevin" Hess; her stepchildren, April (Bill) Burdick and Antony Hess; her granddaughter, Michaela Elsbury; and her step-grandchildren, Asher, Hannah, Aidan, Mary Katherine and Mercy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arnold.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Country Manor Memory Care, where she had been living; and to the caregivers at the Kahl Home and Compassus Hospice for their care for her in her last days.
