February 10, 1947 – April 20, 2016
Myral F. Schmit, 69, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at
UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral services are 11 am Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and
Crematory, Rock Island. Burial is at the National Cemetery, Arsenal
Island, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Posts
200 & 569 and VFW Post 1303. Visitation is 1 to 5 pm Sunday at the
funeral home. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established.
Myral was born Feb. 10, 1947 in Rock Island, son of Laurence A. and
Rosemary E. Schaab Schmit. He married Carole A. Ellinwood on Oct. 25,
1969 in Rock Island.
Myral was a graduate of Rock Island High School. He worked for over 30 years at Ameritech before retiring. After retirement, he worked briefly at Saukie Golf Course and was currently employed by the Reynolds Telephone Company.
He enlisted with his buddy's "The Great Eight" and served in the US Marine Corps. He was a member of the Rock Island Evening Lions Club and American Legion Post 200. He was a long time coach in the Rock Island Girls Softball League and enjoyed following Rock Island High School sports. Myral was a dedicated family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Carole; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and
Greg Pearson, Milan; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Tracy Schmit,
Rock Island; grandchildren, Alex, Courtney and Emily Pearson, Milan, and
Caleb Starks, Cooper and Cash Schmit, Rock Island; brother and
sister-in-law, Laurence "Butch" and Marie Schmit, Texas; sister and
brother-in-law, Margaret and Al Melody, Milan; aunt, Marilyn Schaab,
East Moline; and many other loving family members and friends. He was
preceded in death by his parents.
