Myrtle M. Eckert, 94, of Rock Island, died Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Baptist Church, 2704 38th St., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10 -11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family.
Myrtle was born in Rock Island on January 18, 1924, a daughter of John and Goldie Parris Christiansen. She married Millard Eckert on May 30, 1943 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in 2004.
Myrtle was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also an avid reader.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters (and spouses), Barbara Lundy, Rock Island, Shirley Mountain, East Moline, Mary (Warren) Mayhew, Aledo, Linda (Don) Leatherman, Moline, Sue (Al) Wren, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Patty (Dave) Kraft, Rock Island; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard Nesbitt, Rock Island; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a grandson, brothers, John and Jim Christensen and sisters, Lydia Dean and Dorothy Wuthrich.
