Nancy E. Ferkel, 62, of Moline, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Unity Point, Trinity, Rock Island.
A memorial service will be 6:00 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, with visitation prior from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island County Animal Shelter.
Nancy was born August 15, 1952 in Hackensack, NJ, a daughter of Calvin and Nancy Lee (Tromm) LaFrence. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1970. She later received her Associates Degree from Blackhawk College.
Nancy was employed for over 40 years in both the purchasing and accounting departments at Royal Neighbors of America.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Moline, where she was a member of the church choir. She also was one of the original members of the Blackhawk Community College Choir.
In earlier years, Nancy was very involved as a Den Mother and Scout Committee member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts with her son. She had a lifelong love of horses which began when she was a teenager visiting Hill and Dale Stables.
Surviving are her son, Bailey Justin Ferkel, LaGrange, GA; sister, Anita Brunson, Rock Island; stepmother, Betty June LaFrence, Osco, IL; and cousin, Barbara Edwards, Troy, VT.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Calvin Wayne LaFrence and sisters, Barbara Jean LaFrence and Georgia Tromm LaFrence.
