Nancy L. Anderson, 82, of Milan, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 at her home. Funeral services are 10 am Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan. Burial is at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Taylor Ridge. Visitation is 4 to 7 pm Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Memorials may be made to the Milan Food Pantry, Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., or to Lutheran World Relief. Nancy Lee Hickerson was born Feb. 16, 1934 in Davenport, a daughter of James and Marguerite Rodts Hickerson. She was baptized in to the Christian faith on March 11, 1934 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. She married Lyle E. Anderson on May 8, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge, where she was received into the church by her confirmation on Aug. 18, 1954. Nancy attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Rock Island, and graduated from Alleman High School. As a teen, she worked at Weller's Drive Inn, Milan. Following high school, Nancy worked at Bituminous Insurance and later for Dohrn Transfer Co. She also worked at Anderson & Mandle Grain Co., Milan. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, where she served a number of years as a Vacation Bible School leader and was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). Nancy had been a leader of the Lucky Clover 4-H Club and was an active quilter, making baby quilts for charitable organizations. Survivors include her husband, Lyle; daughter, Christina (James) Barrows, Milan; sons, Rev. Steven (Sara) Anderson, Sherrard, Matthew (Kathleen) Anderson, Rock Island, Rev. David (Susanne) Anderson, Bettendorf and Paul (Darci) Anderson, Milan; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Hickerson, Orion; and her sister, Kathleen (Bob) Laleman, Loudon, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, John "Jack", James, Charles, and William "Bill" Hickerson. Online condolences may be left at wheelanpressly.com.
