Nancy R. Masem, 99, of Rock Island passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Private services are to be held and burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or US Department of Veterans Affairs. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Nancy was born on September 8, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of Michele and Mary (Ceppo) Sammartano. She married Matthew C. Masem on December 7, 1941. Nancy owned and operated House of Charm Beauty Salon in Rock Island for many years. Her hobbies included ceramics, needlepoint, and cross stitch.

Those left to cherish Nancy's memory include her husband, Matthew Masem; daughters, Madalene Masem and Barbara Lee; grandchildren, Tina (Dave) Thomas, Jason (Brea) Cook, Julie (Chad) Elliott, Kristina Cook, and Kari (Gary) Gardner; and great grandchildren, Ava and Cooper Thomas, Jayden and Jillian Kyle, Adrianna Gilbert, and Michael Pugh.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Michele and Mary; great great granddaughter, Jamilah Amena; and siblings, Antonia "Nina" Turano, Michael Sammartano, and Frances Lembo.
