Norman F. Buck, 96, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, Illinois is assisting the family.
Norman was born January 13, 1919 in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of Elmer and Eleonor Rippe Buck. He married Janet Sorenson on May 29, 1948 at Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. She died February 9, 2011. Norman had resided in Fort Wayne from 1919 to 1971; Lake Bluff, Ill., from 1971 to 2003; and then relocated to Bettendorf in 2003, where he lived until his passing.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree from DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., and later attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass. Norman was awarded a Master's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich. He was an actuary and consultant for Lincoln National Life Insurance, Co., Fort Wayne, Washington National Insurance Co., Evanston, Ill., and Bruce and Bruce Associates, Lake Bluff, Ill., from where he retired at the age of 81.
Norman was a four year Rector Scholar while at DePauw University, as well as a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity at DePauw. He was a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries, having passed all of the required exams. He was a former member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne and St. James Lutheran Church, Lake Forest, Ill., where he chaired the Building Committee. He was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa.
He served as a Captain in the US Army Air Force during WW II and had been stationed in India. He was active in politics and served as a Precinct Committee Chairman in Fort Wayne. Norman enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, poker and golf. He also enjoyed reading and traveling the world with his late wife, Jan.
Survivors include his children, Holly (Harold) Seamon, Kokomo, Ind., Barbara (Dr. James) Hahn, Bettendorf, Dr. Gregory (Cathy) Buck, Brookfield, Wis., James (Smhan) Buck, Lakawanna, N.Y., and Eric (Amy) Buck, St. Paul, Minn.; grandchildren, Aaron (Elizabeth) Seamon, Noblesville, Ind., Megan Seamon, Indianapolis, Ind., Adam (Rachel) Hahn, Denver, Colo., Eric (Laura) Hahn, Denver, Alex (Emily) Hahn, Madison, Wis., Ethan Hahn, New Haven, Conn., Jason Buck, Madison, Andrew Buck, Milwaukee, Wis., David Buck, Fargo, N.D., Daniel Buck, Madison, Ian Buck, St. Paul, Caleb Buck, Duluth, Minn., Jonas Buck, St. Paul, Tanushri Buck, St. Paul, and Subashri Buck, St. Paul; and great-grandchildren, Natalie and Caitlyn Seamon, Noblesville, and Emma and Samantha Hahn, Denver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; and a daughter, Susan Buck.
