Norman Harold Peterson, 89, of Milan, Illinois, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Silver Cross Nursing at Friendship Manor, Rock Island, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

Norman was born on June 5, 1937, in Moline, Illinois, a son of Harold E. C. and Leila F. (Ells) Peterson. He grew up on Ginger Hill in Milan and attended school in the Quad Cities. Norman married the love of his life, Maxine E. Stoever, on December 11, 1954, in Iowa. Together they shared more than 71 years of marriage.

Norman dedicated 37 years of service as a machine operator at Franks Foundry before retiring. He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Rock Island and served as an usher for many years. Norman was also a former member of the Svithiod Club and the Rock Island Conservation Club. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating on the Mississippi River. In his younger years, Norman enjoyed dancing, and throughout his life he liked to watch NASCAR and he loved taking long walks. Above all, Norman cherished the time he spent with his family.

Those left to honor Norman’s memory include his beloved wife, Maxine; his children, Steven (Theresa) Peterson, Rhonda (Mike) McCalester, and Angela (David) McCollum; his grandchildren, Carlee, Steven, Kristy, Jennifer, and Bonnie; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sherry (Gerald) Proehl; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Don and Carl Peterson; and his great-grandson, Dylan McCalester.
