Odean J. Smith, 59, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Thursday October 19, 2017 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.

Private family graveside services with military honors will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. No visitation is planned. Arrangements are entrusted to Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to UnityPoint Hospice.

Odean was born October 27,1957 in Kewanee, Ill., a son of John "J.C." Smith and Anna Mae Bullock Smith. He graduated from Wethersfield High School, Kewanee, Class of 1974, and later from Black Hawk College, Moline. He honorably served  as a Specialist 4th Class in the U.S. Army. Odean was formerly married to Toni  Currie.

He was a store manager for Aldi Foods, Chicago, and later a telecommunicator for the city of Kewanee . In his spare time he enjoyed working with computers and fixing cars. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Kewanee.

Odean will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a private man.  He quietly spent the last years of his life taking care of his mother, even as he faced and managed his own health challenges.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Tanya Smith, Davenport, Iowa, Tarah Smith, Chicago, Alexa Smith, Rock Island; stepdaughter, Jasmin Campbell, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Arianna and Amaya; mother, Anna Mae Smith, Rock Island; brother and sisters, James "Jim" "Sonny" Smith, Bloomington, Ill., Doris Ann Smith, Rock Island,  and Norita Smith, Rock Island; nieces and nephews, Erica Nichols, Jennifer Smith, Aaron Smith, Terel Smith, Chad Dixon, Jamar Dixon, Jamelle Smith, and Jasmine Smith; former wife, Toni Smith, Bettendorf; and additional family.

Odean was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Michael C. Smith.
