Obituary

Olive H. Hong, 97, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully Friday June 27, 2025 at Clarissa Cook Hospice, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday July 8, 2025 at Grace Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island and will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/1097922608/10044cb5db. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  Memorials may be left to Clarissa Cook Hospice House and Grace Church PC(USA).

Olive was born on April 15, 1928 in Wakefield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Charlie and Rose (Wong) Fong Lee. She married Van Hong January 6, 1967 in Rhode Island. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2007.

Olive was a graduate of University of Delaware. She had been the head teacher at the New England Pre School for special needs children.

Olive was a member of Grace Church, Rock Island and had formerly attended South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island where she served as a deacon, sang in the chancel choir and was active with the bell choir. She also was a founding member of the Quad City Chinese Association (QCCA). Olive served on the YWCA Board where she started her journey as a chinese cooking instructor. She also enjoyed teaching Chinese cooking through the Rock Island Park Board which she did for 17 years.  Her passions included gardening, fishing, traveling, and winning at mahjong. Olive's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.

Those who morn her passing, are her sons and their spouses, Peter and Rebecca Hong, Ankeny, Iowa, and Christopher and Angel Hong, Longwood, Florida; and a loving grandmother to David Hong and his wife Maria, Kristina and her husband Travis Grier, Ethan Hong and Annika Hong; proud great grandmother to Ian and Miles, special friends Susan Leuthauser, Matthew and Lori Kieffer Garrison, Bob and Sue Foster, and Annette Hong; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, William Lee, Harry Lee, Arthur Lee; sisters, Annie Chin and Evelyn Lee.
