Olive E. (Johnson) Schwiebert died April 10, 2015 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Friendship Manor in Rock Island, Illinois at the age of 95. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 9:00 AM immediately preceding her Funeral Service at 10:30 AM, both at St. John's Lutheran Church, 4501 – 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the Lloyd and Olive Schwiebert Fine Arts Scholarship Fund at Augustana College. Olive was born on July 5, 1919 in DeLamere, North Dakota to Ole E. Johnson and Effie Martinson Johnson. She married Lloyd A. Schwiebert on June 7, 1948.

Olive was a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota where she sang in the College Choir, was a member of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and was elected Homecoming Queen her senior year. After teaching one and one-half years at Moorhead High School, she earned a Master's Degree at Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. after which she became Dean of Women at Augustana College in Rock Island. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline and currently belonged to St. John's Lutheran in Rock Island. She served on the Church Council in each of these congregations.

During her early years as a housewife and mother, Olive was active in Longfellow PTA, and served as a den mother and brownie scout leader. She was a charter member of the Advisory Board for Intouch Day Care Center, a member of the Rock Island County League of Women Voters, a member of the YWCA Board where she served as Y-teen Chair; past president of the Davenport Municipal Art Gallery Volunteer Guild; past president of the Augustana Endowment Society; a member of the WVIK Foundation Board and held memberships in the Rock Island County Bar Auxiliary, the Davenport Outing Club, the Quad Cities Botanical Center and served as president of the Jane Addams King's Daughters and a member of the Chapter HB, PEO Sisterhood. In 1991 she was chosen Queen of the Mardi Gras by the Rock Island Junior Board.

Olive brought boundless energy to everything she undertook and made innumerable friends along the way. An avid student of political affairs, she possessed a steadfast compassion for those facing adversity and a keen sense of social justice for the afflicted. She also possessed a gift for living in the moment and for brightening the lives of those around her with her warm personality, inquiring mind, and concern for the well-being of others. The inspiration of her life will live on in the many lives she touched with her vitality, grace, and good will.

Olive was preceded in death in 2004 by her husband, Lloyd; by her parents; her sister, Rachel Garmer; and her brother, E. Carvel Johnson. She is survived by 4 children, Dr. L. Peter (Kathy) Schwiebert of Edmond, Oklahoma; Mark W. (Debbie) Schwiebert of Rock Island, Illinois; Sara Ann Schwiebert of Edina, Minnesota; and Dr. John E. (Dr. Ann Jefferds) Schwiebert of Salt Lake City, Utah; as well as four grandchildren: Kristin, Matthew, Jack, and Elizabeth Schwiebert; her brother, Aaron ("Bud") Johnson; sister-in-law, Ann (Schwiebert) Evans, and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the very capable and caring staff of Silver Cross Nursing Center at Friendship Manor, who showed Olive such compassion and love during the last years of her life.
