Oneneta D. DePron, 98, of Rock Island, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at her home. Services for Mrs. DePron will be 12:00 pm, Friday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private inurnment will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Kawasaki Foundation. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.
Oneneta was born on June 2, 1925, in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of John and Thelma (Miller) Nye. She married Kenneth C. DePron in 1953. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2004. Oneneta was a homemaker. She had worked in the lunchroom at Central Junior High School, Rock Island. Mrs. DePron was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island and volunteered for many years in the church kitchen. She was active in the school PTA and started a Cub Scout Program in her home. Oneneta loved to cook. She enjoyed bird watching and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and Chicago Bears fan.
Survivors include her children, Terry Freshwaters Miller, and her husband, Terry, East Moline, Jackie Freshwaters Augat, and her husband, Thomas, Maine, Steve DePron, and his wife, Carol, St. Louis, Kenneth DePron ll, Rock Island, Stacey Smith and her husband, Kevin, Maine; grandchildren, Holly (Levi), Nicole (Brad), Aaron (Kayla), Todd (Lindsey), and Luke; great grandchildren, Logan, Aubrey, Noah, Natalie, Madyson, and Aleah; a sister, Judy Wihlferht, Alaska; a former daughter in law, Sandy DePron, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews.
Oneneta was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert, Martha, Myrtle, and Jack.
