Orville A. Shields, 85, of Milan, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 26, 2014.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Milan Christian Food Pantry.
Orville was born December 11, 1928 in Canton, IL, a son of Earl and Helen M. Clark Shields. He married Patricia A. Miller on March 27, 1953 in Viola, IL.
Orville was a Machine Repairman with John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline for many years. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a direct descendant of John Shields, a scout for Lewis and Clark on the Corps of Discovery Expedition. He loved genealogy, traveling, hunting, and fishing. Some of Orville's happiest times were spent in the company of his friends and family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia, of Milan; children (and spouses), Orville A. (Roberta) Shields, East Moline, Robin E. Shields Boyd, Davenport, and Michael G. (Cora) Shields, Sumner, WA; grandchildren, Kelly (Andy) Fratzke, Kari (Wade) Weber, Kim (Craig) Watkins, Eric (Meredith) DeSmet, Heather (Shaun) Sneath, Tyler (Marleana) Boyd, April (Matt) Peterson, and Lauren Shields; great-grandchildren, Austin, Jacob, Alyssa, Jordan, Elle, Chloe, Bryce, Isabelle, Ashton, Rebecca, Hayden, Trey, Jackson, Skylar, Hunter, Kobe, and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Orville was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother, Mamie Huffstatlar Shields, two brothers, Stewart and Earl "Red" Shields, and one sister, Ellia Christensen.
