Patrick M. Ford, 76, of Coal Valley, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made in care of the American Heart Association.
Patrick was born in Rock Island on March 13, 1938, a son of Quint and Vivian Vroman Ford. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1956. He then received his associate's degree from Black Hawk College and took classes at Marycrest College in Davenport.
Patrick was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the U.S.S. Calcaterra. He married Marilyn J. McMillin on November 24, 1961 in Moline. He retired from John Deere in 1992 as a human resource representative.
Patrick loved tennis and, as a young man, played on Rock Island's winning high school team. However, golf was the biggest joy of his life, playing at least five times a week, and was a past president of Pinnacle Country Club.
Pat loved to sing and was asked to perform at numerous functions including the John Deere supervisor's club events. He sang at many weddings for family members and friends. The Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria were the most requested.
Survivors include the loves of his life: wife, Marilyn Ford, Coal Valley; daughters, Julianne Cochuyt, Taylor Ridge and Susan Spenard, East Moline; grandchildren, Zach Cochuyt and Emily Spenard. He also loved and is survived by great-grandchildren, Kaiya, Lily and Zaydin; brothers, Quinton (Joyce) Ford, Moline and Tim Ford, Moline; sisters, Robbin Hensley, Minn., Chantel (Tom) Brems, East Moline and Burse (Gary)Badley, Arkansas. He also survived by nieces, Sara Turner, Stacy Elliott, Sunday Fuller, Julie Neal, Whitney Ford, Faith Ann Isbell, Keri Wilson; nephews, Josh Ford, Chris Ford, Q.B. Ford, Chad McMillin, Ryan McMillin, David Dunn, Tom Brems and Neal Ford.
Music brought Pat such pleasure. Everyone remembers his love for Frank Sinatra and the song, "My Way." He always said, " when I'm gone just say "I did it "My Way."
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Sergei.
