Obituary

Paul D. Conwell, 74, Rock Island, IL passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024 at UnityPoint Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. There will be a visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM followed by a memorial Mass at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Pius.

Paul was born on February 4, 1950 to John and Eleanor "Petty" (Hutton) Conwell in Moline, IL. Paul and his siblings had an adventurous childhood. They rode unicycles that were given to them by a local priest – with one sibling on the shoulders of another. And he and his brother, Jimmy, were regionally competitive speed skaters sponsored by the Rock Island Optimist Club.

After Paul graduated from Alleman High School, he started his work as a warehouseman. During his career he was employed at John Deere, Jacobsen Warehouse, and then retired from Comprehensive Logistics.

On June 20, 1987 he was united in marriage to Alice Dasso at St. Pius. The couple made their home in Rock Island where they raised their two children.

Paul was a jack of all trades who could do anything from electrical to tile to plumbing, and was always happy to help his family, friends and neighbors. In his spare time, he loved riding his Harley. He also enjoyed sports whether watching (the Cubs and Bears) or participating. He liked playing tennis, shooting pool, and even ran the Chicago Marathon. At home, he loved tending to his rhododendron and tomato plants. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, and especially cherished the time with his grandkids.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Alice; children, Tonya (Jaime) Rea and Christopher (Kiely) Conwell; grandchildren, Jaime, Jayden, and Analice Rea; Teegan, Adalynn, Penelope and Lola Conwell; and Parker McCash; siblings, Jimmy Conwell and Diane (Larry) Guyer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Stephen and Michael Conwell.
