Paul L. Roessler, 80, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Funeral services are 10 am Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island High School Athletic Department. Paul was born Nov. 12, 1936 in Rock Island, the son of Paul and Mildred Griffith Roessler, later raised by Paul and Lillian Roessler. He married Dorothy McCombs on June 7, 1957 in Rock Island. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1955. Paul began his working career at Desaulniers Printing Co., he later worked for International Harvester as a shipping router and then later for Spector Transfer. In 1972 he purchased the Athletic Shop in Rock Island, retiring in 1994. Paul was an avid Rock Island sports fan. He served the community in many volunteer capacities including, being a member and past president of the Rock Island Booster Club, a director of the Rock Island Evening Lion's Club, past president of Rock Island Junior Baseball and coaching the Sonic's Girl Softball Team for many years. He loved watching his children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities; and being a Chicago Cub fan, was excited to see them win the World Series. Survivors include his children, Steve Roessler, Rock Island, Jeff Roessler, Rock Island and Sherry Roessler, Milan; grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Roessler, Justin (McKenzie) Roessler, Brandon (Stephanie) Roessler, Jerrod (Jami) Roessler, and Jacob Lester; and great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Kaylea, Brooklyn, Matthew and Bronx Roessler. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; and grandson, Joshua Roessler-Patting. Online condolences may be left at wheelanpressly.com.
