Peter Carl Brachtel, 76, of Des Moines, formerly of the Quad Cities, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the Des Moines VA Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island.  The service will be livestreamed for friends and family that cannot attend in person, and can be viewed at: www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island.

Peter was born on August 24, 1946 in Davenport, the son of Carl J. and Helen Elizabeth (Rolf) Brachtel.  He was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, and enjoyed when he was stationed in Anchorage, AK.  Peter graduated from Davenport West High School.  Peter was a custom cabinet maker and a skilled mechanic that could fix anything.  Peter loved country music, cooking, gardening, playing Yahtzee, and had fond memories of fishing for Blue Marlin in Panama City, FL.  His favorite things recently were french toast and hot chocolate.  Peter loved his family and will be remembered as a pleasant and kind man.

Survivors include his children, Mark (Cherish) Brachtel and Christy MacDonald (Patrick), grandchildren, Sara Moore, Mathew Babnik, Jessica Brown, and Michael Wells; 9 great grandchildren; and brother, James (Linda) Brachtel.
