Phillip E. Denton, 70, of Rock Island, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, surround by his family. Services for Mr. Denton will be 10 am, Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to family for a memorial fund that will be established at a later date.
Phillip was born on November 25, 1944 in Des Moines, a son of Paul and Ruth (Griffin) Denton. He married Joanne Brooks on February 24, 1968 in Rock Island. Phil worked at Brook's Jewelry Store in Rock Island for his father in law. He specialized in watch and clock repairing, a skill he practiced and enjoyed his entire life. He then worked as a key account manager for A.D. Huesing Corp, Rock Island. He retired from A.D. Huesing after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Moline Breakfast Optimist Club, and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. Phil volunteered his time for many years at the annual Happy Joe's Christmas Party for special needs children. Phil was dedicated to his family and committed to their success. He was proud of his grandchildren who meant the world to him, he supported them in all their sporting events and activities.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; a son and daughter in law, Andrew and Madonna Denton, Moline; grandchildren, Elena and Eli Denton, Moline; a brother, Edward (Kathy) Denton, Florida.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James.
Mr. Denton's family would like to thank Dr. John Davies and staff for the care they gave Phil. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
