Phyllis L. Appel, 81, of Milan, passed away Tuesday November 8, 2016 at her home.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ladies Union Cemetery, Stockton, IL. There is no visitation planned, Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, is assisting the family. Memorials  may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, IL.

Phyllis was born April 28, 1935 in Elizabeth, IL, a daughter of Clayton and Lucille Hacker Schreck. She married Ralph F. Appel on July 5, 1953 in Derinda, IL.

Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan and the Milan American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She loved spending time with friends and family and spoiling her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph, of Milan; children (and spouses), Janet (Wesley) Matter, Milan, Patsy Holland (fiancé, Steve), Stockton, IL, William (Mary) Appel, Silvis, and Roger (Wendy) Appel, Ottumwa, IA; grandchildren, Tonya (Brian) Dennison, John (Wendy) Matter, Stacy (Dan) Lieb, Bobbie Jo (James) Landrith, Jennifer Appel, Renee (Doug) Dennison, Steven (Danita) Appel and Scott Appel; many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Loretta Schreck, Hemet, CA; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Phyllis was preceded in death by parents; brother, James Schreck; and sister-in-law, Julene Knouse.
