Phyllis C. Fluegel, 93, of Taylor Ridge, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 1, 2019 at her daughter's home, surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Andalusia. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7 th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will follow the Rosary until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Unity Point Hospice.
Phyllis was born July 11, 1925 in Rock Island, the daughter of Benjamin and Martha (DeSchepper) Bush. She married Robert Fluegel on October 16, 1945 at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. Phyllis graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1944. She loved being a mother and homemaker. She also did the bookwork for her husband who was a milk distributor for most of his adult life. Living on the farm next to her husband's parents, Phyllis did a lot of canning and freezing to feed her family over the winter. Phyllis was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for most of her married life, beginning when it was a small mission church in Edgington. The new church sits on land that the Fluegels farmed for many years. Phyllis is loved by all of the parishioners there and she was believed to be the oldest member of the parish at her death.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Carol Fluegel, Moline and Helen (Jim) Bloome, Port Byron; brother in law, Tom Fluegel, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Jennifer (Bill) Staib, Coralville, Iowa, Lee Bloome, Chatham, IL and Chris (Kim) Bloome, Liverpool, NY; great grandchildren, Matt (Sizi) Staib, Catherine Staib, Rebecca Staib, Cassie Staib, Anna Staib, Julianna Bloome and a brother, Bernard Bush, Jacksonville, FL
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, siblings, Eleanor Behnken, Tom Bush, Bob Bush, M. Virginia Tank and granddaughter in law, Lisa Bloome.
