Phyllis A. Coogan, 88, of Rock Island, formerly of Milan, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will follow the service at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 PM Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. A Christian Wake Service will start at 4 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or the Alzheimers Foundation of America.

Mrs. Coogan was born August 23, 1926, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the daughter of Luca and Palma Galante. She married William Coogan on July 25, 1965.

Phyllis received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Art Education at Buffalo State University in Buffalo, N.Y. She loved photography, was a member of the Morris County Photography Club in Niagara Falls, N.Y. She worked as an art teacher for over 15 years in Niagara Falls Public School System in Niagara Falls, N.Y. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, photography and art in her spare time.

Survivors include her daughter Maureen Coogan, Chicago., Ill.; and son-in-law and daughter, Dr. Rui and Jane Cerejo and their children Chase, Carson and Grace Cerejo, Wellington, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband William; siblings, John Galante, Martha Slattery, Peter Galante, Anthony Galante, Frances Galante, and Joseph Galante.
