Phyllis M. Hackwith, 93, of Walnut, IL, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday February 7, 2017 at Heritage Manor in Walnut. A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Phyllis was born October 18, 1923 in Princeville, IL, a daughter of Charles E. and Mayme R. (Smith) Fredell. She married James E. Hackwith on January 30, 1942 in Princeville. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1996. Phyllis will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed caring for her family, bicycling, and traveling in their motor home. She was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are her children (and spouses), Nancee (Larry) Woodley, Princeton, IL, Kay Briegel, Bluegrass, IA, Linda (Jim) Hanks, Moline, IL, Ona (Bill) Talbot, Davenport, IA, and Michael J. Hackwith, Oshkosh, WI; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Rager, Austin, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters and three brothers.
