Phyllis Marie Hudson, 89, of Rock Island, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015, while living at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Funeral services for Phyllis will be held 10am Wednesday at Wheelan - Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
Phyllis is rejoining her husband, George R. Hudson, whom she married on October 29, 1949.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gladys N. Montgomery and Harold C. Percy. She is also predeceased by her stepfather, Albert C. Woodyatt, and her sister, Ilene N. Poitz. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews: Diane Poitz Edwards of Spring, TX; Kristin Edwards of Deer Park, TX; Karen Ott of Archdale, NC; Donna Bell (John) of Coal Valley, IL; Debbie Barlow (Harry) of Moline; Douglas Ott (Alicia) of Gurley, AL and Brian Ott (Michelle) of Trinity, NC. She also leaves behind her cousins, Elwood "Woody" (Suzan) Hall of Highland, CA.
Phyllis was a lifetime resident of Rock Island. She graduated from Rocky High, married George Hudson soon after, and later they joined Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. While married, Phyllis and George were both longtime employees of Bear Manufacturing. After Bear, George went to John Deere and Phyllis worked at a Quad Cities advertising agency.
Phyllis was a long-time member of Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, IL. She was an avid golfer and also bowled at Town & Country in the Ladies League. She loved spending time with her family and friends, playing cards in her ladies group, and looked forward to any opportunity for travel or cruising.
Phyllis's family will be forever grateful to the many caregivers, physicians, and dedicated friends that made her years at Friendship Manor very peaceful. A special thank you goes out to Silver Cross Health and Rehabilitation Pavilion at Friendship Manor and Genesis Hospice.
