Phyllis Weeks, age 89, died Monday, November 17, 2014 in Lincolnwood, Illinois.
Phyllis Anne Grams was born in Chicago on May 8, 1925 to Raymond C. and Dorris Evans Grams. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Indianapolis.
Phyllis attended Purdue University, where she earned a degree in Psychology. At Purdue, she also met her future husband, Robert Walker Weeks, to whom she was married in 1948. The couple's first home was in Chicago where they resided while Robert attended Northwestern University School of Law. During that time Phyllis worked at Marshall Field and Co. and Time, Inc. They then moved to Robert's home town of Rock Island, Illinois.
Phyllis was active in PEO Sisterhood Chapter GQ, the Tri-City Garden Club, and many other organizations. She enjoyed singing in the choir and serving in other volunteer positions at First United Methodist Church (now Two Rivers Methodist). She performed and worked backstage at Playcrafters Barn Theater for many years. She loved to garden, play bridge and travel.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, and her daughter Katharine Ewing. She is survived by daughters Susan Soden (Kevin) of Ewing, Virginia, and Nancy Rose (Frank) of Chicago, grandchildren Elizabeth Ewing, Mark Ewing, Laura Sesbeau, Carolyn Gahn, Robert Rose and Charles Rose, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Phyllis' life will be held Saturday, December 13 at 2 pm at Two Rivers Methodist Church, 1820 5th Avenue, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund or the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research. Private burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.
