Rachel L. Matthews, 90, of Rock Island passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with visitation to be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.

Rachel was born on September 5, 1934 in Eclectic, Alabama, a daughter of Perfect and Savanna (Lovejoy) Jackson. She married McKinley Matthews on October 30, 1955. Rachel worked as an Office Clerk at United Stationary before retiring.

Rachel's hobbies included fishing, bowling, playing cards, listening to music, working on crossword puzzles and watching soap operas and comedies.

Those left to cherish Rachel's memory include her husband, McKinley Matthews; children, Terryl (Pam) Matthews, Cheryl (King) Jackson, Judith Marie (William) Holloway , Robbie McKinley Matthews, Rachel Deneen (Johnnie) Lindsey, Joseph (Teressa) Matthews and Joel Matthews; grandchildren, Elijah, Teleesha, Alice, Anthony, Telisha, Aaron, Freda, Felicia, Fiona, Ferina, Micah, Jahnah Dena, Daniel, Monisha, Nakeesha, Shameeka, LaShaonda, Avair, Johnathan, Jerry, Shanice Alivia, Takia, Joseph Jorel, Michelle, Joshua, Kyla, and Trivion; 74 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Joyce Waicille Winn and Jimmy Jackson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Taquana Matthews and Adrian Winfield; and siblings, Odessa, Rebecca Ruth Ophelia, Shirley Jean, Percy, Paul, Clarence and Warren.
