Ramon M. Vasquez, 85, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday September 6, 2015 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. He was cared for by Veterans Administration Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, a rosary will be recited at 4:00pm. Burial will be in National Cemetery, with Military Honors by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be left to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Mr. Vasquez was honored for his duty in assuming control of his Army tank in Korea when his Commander was fately wounded.

Ramon suffered a short notice of advanced cancer for three months, found after complications with diabetes. He never stopped caring for and seeing about his wife and sons.

Ramon was born on December 16, 1929 in Brownsville, TX, the son of Francisco and Candida (Medrano) Vasquez. He married Guadalupe Flores on December 1, 1951 in Texas. He was employed at the former Eagles Warehouse for over 27 years as a machine operator and produce receiving and distribution. Ramon was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. He loved dancing, watching western movies and working in his yard.

Survivors include his loving wife, Guadalupe; sons, Oscar Vasquez, Michigan, David Vasquez, Rock Island; grandson, Lance (Cheryl) Vasquez; granddaughter, Lorrie(Dale) Mickels; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Juanita Garcia, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fernando M. Vasquez.

Ramon had some special friends close to his family and as co-godparents. He will be missed greatly by his family and his special buddy "Pacco" the family pet.
