Ramona Jean (Watson) McMeekan, 85, of Viola, passed away Wednesday October 4, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 5:00pm, Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Funeral services will be 10:00am Monday at Cable Community Church, 1498 303rd St, Sherrard, IL 61281. Burial will follow in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. Memorials may be left to Ag in the Classroom or the Salvation Army.
Ramona was born on January 8, 1938 in Viola the daughter of Frazier and Agnes (McConnell) Watson. She married Richard "Dick" McMeekan on March 20, 1959 in First Presbyterian Church, Milan.
Mrs. McMeekan was employed as a teacher for over 40 years with the Sherrard School District. She created the ROAR reading program and enjoyed making gingerbread houses, with her students. Retiring in 2003, she continued teaching Ag in the Classroom for 20 years.
She was a member of Cable Community Church and the Mercer County Retired Teachers.
Ramona loved spending time with her family, baking with grandkids and raising and releasing butterflies. She was always interested in other people and didn't want to be the center of attention. She was the ultimate church basement lady.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Dick; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa (John) Wyant, Coal Valley, Carolynn (Bill) Gombert, Orion, Elizabeth (Cory) Bollinger, Lady Lake, Florida, Rebecca (Brian) Heick, Bettendorf; "daughter number 5", Peggy Scranton, Aledo; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren with one more expected in November; siblings, Bud (Lois) Watson, Sherrard, Karen Watson Burton, Wataga; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Watson, Milan and Bonnie Watson, Coal Valley; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frazier and Agnes; siblings, Connell Watson, Harold Watson, Roberta Patterson, Florence Lude.
