Obituary

Raymond A. Foley, 93, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Private services with military honors will be held at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Raymond Arthur Foley was born Dec. 3, 1921 in Savanna, Ill., a son of Michael F. and Ina M. Davis Foley. He married Emma L. Boylan on Dec. 24, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo.

Raymond graduated from the University of Oklahoma, Norman. He was project manager of cannon weapon systems at the Rock Island Arsenal. He retired in 1975 after 37 years of service.

He was a WW II US Army combat veteran. Raymond received several decorations and citations including the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lake Helen, Fla., and a former member of First United Methodist Church, Rock Island. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing and traveling.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years, Emma; children, Carol (Charles) Givens, Round Rock, Texas, Judy (Dan) O'Hern, Kalamazoo, Mich., Ronald (Beverly) Foley, Orion, and Roxanne (Dr. Stewart) Garneau, Davenport; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Michael Foley, Fulton, Ill., and a sister, Jean Lastinger, Nashville, Tenn. he was preceded in death by his brothers, John and George.
