Raymond was born on January 16, 1946 in Moline, a son of Robert M. Maynard and Charlotte L. Hartman.  Ray  graduated from Rockridge High School in 1964 and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Arlene Nickerson on April 19, 1969 in Erie.  Ray worked for Roth Tank Company in Rock Island and then as a supervisor at McLaughlin Body, retiring after 27 years of service.

Ray was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, the Knights of Columbus and for 40 plus years, the Milan American Legion Post 569 and VFW. He was an avid fisherman and golfer who also loved camping.  His idea of a perfect day would have been fishing and sitting at a picnic table with some Old Milwaukee, listening to country music with his family and KOA campground friends.  He also enjoyed watching westerns, most notably, the Rifleman and Gunsmoke.  Ray was an avid Chicago Bears fan.  He loved the holidays, especially decorating his yard around Halloween and Christmas.

Ray is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter, Kelly (Eric) Fuller, Rock Island; son, Kyle (Elizabeth) Maynard, Cordova; grandchildren, Michael Maynard and Alicia, Kalie and Lacey Stropes; great grandson, Nevyl Cooper; sister, Marilyn Sieben, Rock Island; brothers, R. Scott (Rita) Maynard, Edgington and Mitch (Phyllis) Maynard, Milan; several nieces and nephews and his best friend, his dog, Bucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
