Rhoda Humphrey, 85, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away surrounded by the love of her family and friends on February 3, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Einar and Betty Wistedt, her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Scott Landa, and brother Nelvin.  Rhoda is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob Humphrey, son Rob, grandson Blake, sister-in-law Judy Wistedt, and many loving nephews and nieces, including Terry Hillyer, Rich Hillyer, Chris and Dawn Hillyer, Stephanie and Chad DeWitt, Erik Wistedt.

Rhoda was born in Rock Island on August 18, 1938.  She met her husband, Bob, in the cafeteria lunch line at Rocky in 1954 and graduated two years later.  A talented soprano, Rhoda planned to study opera in college.  But she ditched Puccini and Verdi to marry Bob, her high school sweetheart, on July 26, 1958.

Rhoda had many jobs, working sales at Reeds Jewelry and Younkers, a playground supervisor at Horace Mann Grade School, but her favorite job was hall monitor at Rocky.  Despite the rumors, started by Rhoda, she did not have a black belt.

Rhoda, a loving wife and mother, treasured being around people, and never hesitated to encourage, family, friends, and even strangers to follow their dreams.  Rhoda would talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere.  An avid walker and animal lover, she was incredibly generous and wonderfully silly.  Above all, Rhoda loved laughter and being with Bob.

A funeral service will be at 1 pm Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 12 – 1 pm Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the funeral home.  Burial will be private at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.  Wearing red and gold is preferred, Rocky attire is most welcome!  In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of your choice.
