Rhonda M. Westmorland, 59, Davenport, IA passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at UnityPoint-Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf, IA. There will be a visitation from 1-3:00 PM with a memorial service following at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Memorials may be made to the QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
Rhonda was born on May 11, 1966 in Lincoln, IL. On December 8, 1974 she was adopted by her parents, Emery “Whitey” and Kathleen (Welch) Schomer. She grew up in the Quad Cities and graduated from Alleman High School.
On November 24, 1984 she was married to James Allen Westmorland until 2012. The couple made their home in Milan where they raised their three children.
Rhonda started her career in elderly care working in the kitchen at Oak Glen Nursing Home what is now Hope Creek. She later worked at the front desk and then became a social worker until retiring in 2019 due to health reasons. Rhonda didn’t limit her care to just people, she also worked as a vet tech for the animal hospital and QC Animal Welfare Center. She was a devoted union member who proudly served as president of the AFSCME.
Rhonda was an avid reader and book collector. Her home was filled with books, with more romance novels than most stores. In her younger years, she liked riding her motorcycle, that she affectionately called Bobby.
Rhonda adored her pets. She had a wide assortment of animals over the years including dogs, cats, birds, and chinchillas. She was often found under a pile of dogs, surrounded by her beloved dachshunds Oscar, Meyer, Piggie and Mouse, and her Chihuahua, Yogi.
Most of all, Rhonda cherished any time she spent with her family. She enjoyed playing board and card games, especially Yahtzee and Kings in the Corner, and liked playing Dr. Mario on Nintendo Switch with her grandkids during their many sleepovers.
Rhonda will be greatly missed by her children, James Emery (Jessica) Westmorland; Jessica (Dustin) Smith-McDonald, and Jerrica Westmorland; grandchildren, James David and Jeremiah Allen Westmorland; Rebecca Marie-Lynn Smith, Jackilyn Louise Smith, Elijah Michael Menza-Westmorland, Onyx Xavier and Lennox Xavier Maldonado; siblings, Rose Whitten and Joe Winkler. she will also be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews and her two life long friends Vicky Wildermuth and Kathy Stegall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John Winkler.
