Richard A. Brems Sr., 90, of Rock Island, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023 at UnityPoint-Trinity Health, Rock Island. Private inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Active Day or the VA Hospital.
Richard was born on November 2, 1932 in Galesburg, IL. He grew up in Rock Island and in 1952, enlisted in the United States Army. Richard proudly served in Korea until 1954 when he was honorably discharged.
He returned to the Quad Cities and began his forty year career as a Chrysler Parts Manager. Richard worked at several dealerships in the area, retiring from Kimberly Chrysler. After retiring, he worked part-time for Dave Lerner.
Richard married Jeannette Dixon on September 3, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. The couple made their home in Rock Island where they raised their three sons.
Richard was active in youth sports, coaching baseball for many years. He also liked to golf. One of his favorite things to do was spend time with his grandchildren and attend all of their sporting events. Richard was very proud of his military service and enjoyed participating with veterans' groups at Intouch, later Active Day.
Left to cherish his memory are; sons, Richard II (Betty) of Montgomery, IL, Joseph (Louann) of Moline and Jeffrey (Lori) of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Brian (Genna) Brems, Andrew (Jaime) Brems, Joseph II (Lesley) Brems, Kristina Begyn, Alexia (Aaron) Johnson and Alyssa, Hannah and Ali Brems; great-grandchildren, Braeden Begyn, Kai and Eden Brems; Landon and Jack Johnson; and Holden Ebeling-Brems; many nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannette; brother, George.
