Richard “Dick” Davis, 87, of Milan, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island, Illinois.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and there will be a Celebration of Life memorial gathering and luncheon on Saturday, June 20, 2026, starting at 11:30 a.m. at the parish center of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish – St. Ambrose Campus, 320 1st Street West, Milan, Illinois. Private inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline, Illinois. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, Illinois is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dick was born on August 3, 1938, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Eldon and Opal (Utter) Davis. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1957 and later married Grace Atkinson on June 15, 1977. She preceded him in death on October 19, 2005.
Dick worked 30 years at John Deere retiring as a supervisor from the John Deere Parts Distribution Center in Milan. Following his retirement, he spent another 20 years working part time at the Greater Quad City Auto Auction in Milan. A lifelong car enthusiast, Dick always had an eye for a good bargain and was well known for his strong work ethic.
Above all, Dick was devoted to his family. He traveled countless miles over the years to cheer on his granddaughter at basketball games, rarely missing an opportunity to support his grandchildren. His love of basketball dated back to his own high school days, when he held the high school single game scoring record of 33 points.
Those left to cherish Dick’s memory include his son, Jeff Davis (Deb Farber); daughter, Cherie Lawson (Mike); long-time partner, Kack Wuehle; grandchildren, Alysse (Danny) Moreiras, Nathan Davis, Hunter Stevens, and Courtney Stevens (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Gabby, Jordyn, Taylin, and Oaklyn; stepdaughter, Sandra Tornes (Ralph) ; and step-granddaughter, Nanette Park (Danny).
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Grace.
