"Dick" Gage

Richard N. "Dick" Gage of Rock Island died Oct. 27 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. He was 92.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, where Dick was a member, an elder and a deacon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.
He and Gladys L. Cutsinger were married August 17, 1946 at Sheldon, Iowa. She died November 16, 2008. Surviving are a son, Douglas, Rock Island; three daughters and their spouses, Suzann (Jeanette Kangas) of San Diego; Rebecca Montgomery (Mark) of Moline, and Laura Daab (James) of Richmond, Va. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Jane Stout of Boulder, Co., and Emily Stout of Seattle.
Dick's closing stint as a journalist was 21 years at WHBF radio and television stations, where he was assistant news director and editorialist. For WHBF television, he was public affairs director and conducted the discussion program, At Issue. Earlier, he was a reporter and political columnist for The Rock Island Argus, and editor of The Target, the newspaper of Army Weapons Command at Rock Island Arsenal. In the early days of television he wrote a column for TV Guide.
Dick was president of the National Broadcast Editorial Association and secretary of the First Amendment Congress. He was a volunteer associate for Pathway Hospice. He was a member and secretary of the essay organization, Contemporary Club.
During World War II he was an Army Air Force pilot. He flew with the Fifteenth Air Force, based in Italy.
Dick was born April 25, 1923 at Ute Iowa, a son of Robert Dinsmore Gage and Edith Grieser Gage. They preceded him in death, as did a brother, Robert Dinsmore Gage, Jr.
Dick was graduated from Wilson High School at Cherokee, Iowa, attended Sheldon Junior College and was graduated from the University of Iowa.
