Obituary

Richard J. (Rick) Esparza, 69, passed away on Thursday October 6, 2022, at Hope Creek Nursing Center. Rick was a lifelong resident of Rock Island where over the years he made many friends and enjoyed his many hobbies. Rick was of the Catholic faith and a memorial service will be held on October 24, at 1 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Interment will be at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  He loved his pets having had many over the years. His most recent one was his cat Lexi whom he cherished.  Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

He was born on June 17, 1953, in Moline, a son of Earl and Shirley (Rasmussen) Esparza.  Rick worked at the former International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island until its closing in 1986.  He was also an avid painter and talented artist having his work on display at the Art on 2nd in Davenport.  Rick was an especially kind and generous person who gave to many charities throughout the years.  He would always find it in his heart to offer you encouragement or support when you most needed it. He enjoyed being with family and was always readily available for family get togethers where he would enjoy the good food, beverages and catch up on family news. He kindness and peaceful demeanor will be missed.

Survivors include his siblings Mick (Margaret) Esparza, Rock Island, Janet (Dennis) Chapman, Bettendorf, Tommy (Karen) Esparza, Rock Island, and Trisha (Paul) Long, New Boston, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Sharon Ruhl, and Wendy Michl, a brother, David Esparza, and a special nephew Gary Dooley.
