Richard "Dick" L. Ballinger, Sr., 90, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. There will be no services. Memorials may be made in care of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family.
Dick was born on December 13, 1933, a son of Floyd "Everett" and Margaret "Honey" Ballinger. He married Nancy DePaepe on December 1, 1951 and together they had five children. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2024.
Dick retired from Alcoa Aluminum, currently Arconic, after 31 years in the Ingot Department.
He was an avid baseball and men's fastpitch softball player during his younger years. He mostly played at Douglas and Stephens baseball diamonds. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Dick and Nancy were refined and graceful dancers on the weekends. They also enjoyed playing Euchre and Hearts with sister and brother-in-law, Gerry and Whitey Aversing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Vicki Sparks, Moline, IL, Lori (Douglas) Thomer, Rock Island, IL and Rich (Bridgette) Ballinger, Jr., New York; eleven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, Michael Ballinger, daughter, Debbie Gimm and brother, Don Ballinger.
