IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Lincoln
April 7, 1931 – July 2, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Lincoln, aged 94, of Rock Island, who departed this life on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Friendship Manor. A man of exceptional character and dedication, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Richard was born on April 7, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Thomas and Rose Zahara Lincoln. He graduated from Rock Island High School in the class of 1948 and furthered his education at DeVry Institute in Chicago. On December 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janet L. Scapini, in Rock Island, a partnership that flourished until her passing in 2019.
Professionally, Richard devoted 38 years to the Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company, where he ultimately retired as the office supervisor in 1993. His commitment to his community was evident through his active involvement in numerous organizations, including St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Rock Island Jaycees, and the American Federation of Musicians, Local 67. His leadership was further demonstrated through his service on various boards, such as the Rock Island Kiwanis, Rock Island Chamber, Illinois Quad City Chamber, and as Past President of the Milan Chamber of Commerce. Richard's passion for life was reflected in his many interests; he enjoyed golfing, traveling, and frequent visits to the casino. A regular participant in weekly BINGO games at Friendship Manor, he also volunteered his time generously for United Way Fund Drives and during the John Deere Classic golf tournaments. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, Richard was above all a dedicated and loving family man. He is survived by his son, Michael (Cherie) Lincoln of Coal Valley, Illinois; his daughters, Katherine Lincoln of Des Moines, Iowa, and Donna Braet of East Moline, Illinois; four grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) Braet, Matthew (Casey) Braet, Patrick (Carrie) Braet and Sarah Skoglund; and ten great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, wife, and son-in-law, Phil Braet. A Mass of Christian Burial commemorating Richard's remarkable life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island. A visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Following the Mass, Richard will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island. The family requests that memorials be made in Richard's name to the First Tee Program or Alleman High School.
