Richard D. Nicola, age 77, of Moline, Illinois, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity in Rock Island.

Born on September 2, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa, Richard was the cherished son of Richard L. and Dorothy (Neihaus) Nicola. He dedicated over 42 years of service to the Department of Human Services as a caseworker, where his compassion and commitment profoundly impacted the lives of many. Richard entered into a joyful union with Linda Meyers on September 21, 1996, in Moline, a partnership that brought nearly 30 years of shared love and companionship.

Richard leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Brad (Megan) Nicola, Jennifer (Mike) Miles, Andrew (Tabatha) Anderson, and Brian (Amanda) Reffett; as well as his adored grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by his niece, Amanda (Josh) Martin, and his nephew, Stephen (Victoria) Meyers. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Limpke.

A member of Calvary Church of the Quad Cities, Richard was deeply involved in his community. He served as a judge for marching band competitions and Drum Corps International events, where he inspired countless young musicians.

In honoring Richard's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and no services will be held at this time. The Nicola family invites all who knew Richard to reflect on his legacy of kindness and commitment and to join them in remembering the joyful moments shared together.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a charity of choice in Richard's memory, continuing his spirit of generosity and caring for others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
