Richard "Dick" A. Steele, 89, of Moline, formerly of Taylor Ridge, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island, IL. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Friendship Manor.
Dick was born on July 26, 1936, in Rock Island, the son of Richard H. and Dorothy M. (Williamson) Steele. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1954. Dick was the State Wrestler runner up his senior year finishing 33/1. His team also went to the State Championship and was unbeaten in the Illinois competition. He then went to Lincoln Barber College, graduating in 1957. He was united in marriage with Susan Beardslee on May 25, 1957. They were happily married for 67 years. Susan and Dick built their home in Taylor Ridge 50 years ago, with Dick doing most of the finishing work.
After high school, Dick worked as a barber in both Alexis and Rock Island for 16 years. He then went on to work for Williams White and Company for 24 years, retiring in 1996. Most recently he worked as a "Hobby Farmer". He loved taking care of his cows. Dick was affectionately known to his family as "MacGyver" who could fix anything.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Per the wishes of the family, no service will be held. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made in Dick's name to a charity of your choice.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan; children and their spouses, Tammy S. (Steele) and Dan Montz, Michael R. and Angela Steele; grandchildren and their spouses, Tony and Melinda Montz, Abby (Montz) and Ted Waymack, Lauren (Steele) and Mike Capparelli, Madison (Steele) and Jake Phillips, and McKenna Steele. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Anthony Montz, Alana Montz, Vivian Waymack, Hollis Waymack and Lawson Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gerald D. Steele.
